Annual Show and Sale of Weaned Calves
Montague Harris & Co. held their Annual Show and Sale of Weaned Calves at their market ground at Talybont-on-Usk on Monday the 12th of November. Quality calves were on offer which met with a complete clearance from a packed ring, with buyers in attendance from as far afield as Essex. As usual, quality commercial calves were well sought after, with spirited bidding for all lots presented and a complete clearance effected. In the show classes, which were most ably judged by Mr Eddie Morgan and Mr Howell Williams, of Llandovery, David Brute of Gwndwnwal Farm, Llanfihangel Talyllyn, was awarded the Champion, with a Limousin steer weighing 360kgms and selling to Mr Eddie Morgan for £1,525.00. David also bred and showed the prize winning heifer, which was a perfectly put together young black Lim of 260kgms, selling to Mr Gilbert Brooks of Worcester for £1,350.00. The Reserve Champion Steer was shown by R.W. and L.A. Jones of Lower Argoed, who also took second place in the Heifer class. The first prize pair of steers were bred and shown by Mr Chris Alford of Glanyrafon Farm, Pencelli and the second place was awarded to J.B. and F.K. Jones of Pentregwyn, Llanfihangel-Nant-Bran.
